| "Refreshing cold coffee" |
19 Apr 2009 |
| This location of CCD interestingly had a larger outdoor section than indoor. The indoor section is a cramped possibly 6 people seater. Packed into the small space is the display unit, a large cooler and a fly catcher!! So if you can stand the heat or cold try and sit outside. The outside area is actually quite nice and shaded. The real issue here is the parking. Good luck finding a spot anywhere closeby, unless you have a driver who is willing to wait curb side and move a few feet every time the cops come by.
Located by the Army quarters and opposite the main entrance to Taj I am guessing most of its patron are from there and are not really looking for parking but a cup of coffee.
I do not have much to say about all that is available at CCD as I rarely order anything else other than a cold coffee. Which i truly is the reason CCD needs to stay open! its a no frills cant go wrong sort of drink. It needs no sugar and the additions ice cream and everything else is just a distraction.
A neat place to hang out and chat. You can also spend some time browsing in the boutiques that share the space. |

| "GRT's Grand Mediterranean Adventure" |
29 Apr 2009 |
| Azulia is located one level above the lobby at the GRT Grand Hotel in T Nagar. As always their service is impeccable and its always a pleasure being at any GRT establishment.
A blue-lit foyer takes you to the main restaurant that is very well designed and set up. The waiters are dressed in traditional Turkish garb and seem quite well versed in their menu. They make quite an effort to make sure they have your attention while they go over the cuisine and the menu.
We started our meal with appetizers; Hummus, Baba ghanoush, Tzatziki and Tabouleh. All pretty good. For the main course we had their Meat planner and some grilled fish. These I have to say were mediocre at best. They supposedly have a lamb shank that is to die for. But it is a special item not always available and apparently sells out quickly. So maybe check before you go.
We had some of their mocktails, the Calypso was pretty good. They also serve a good selection of wines although only a few are by the glass. The bottles are quite expensive.
For dessert we had a Banana laden sweet dish with tons of Ricotta cheese (not so great!) and a rich chocolate dessert (definitely better!)
All in all it was a great experience. The service was very good with a lot of personal attention. The food was obvious good quality but a lot of it lacked flavor that would want you to go running back.
The bill was huge, so watch what you order (portion sizes are good), go easy on the alcohol and enjoy the ambiance, service and unique dishes you might not find elsewhere. |

| "Did not see the spark!" |
30 Apr 2009 |
| Maybe I missed the memo on what not to eat here, but what we ordered was nothing less than catastrophic!
The place is pretty cool though. Located in the basement its decked out with sports memorabilia, everything from the Chicago Cubs to the New York Nicks. I would think it is a good cross between an American diner and a sports bar/restaurant.
Our order include a vegetable soup, a pizza and garlic flavored mashed potatoes.
The vegetable soup was nauseating. It truly seemed liked a can of vegetables was emptied into a bowl along with the can juice and heated up. No seasoning whatsoever and any little seasoning we added seemed to make no difference. Definitely stay away.
The second order of the day was the mashed potatoes. The dish might have been OK if it wasn't for the garlic. The garlic was over powering and there were unchewable shreds of mashed garlic that needed to be spat out or swallowed whole! Once again stay away from it!
The final order of the day was the Pizza. Their only pizza on the menu although they plan to expand their Pizza selection. The Pizza did not turn up for about 20 minutes. We joked about the Pizza being burnt only to hear from our very honest waiter that it did indeed get burnt!! So after another 15 minutes the pizza did appear. It did not look very appetizing and indeed tasted really bad. A few bites into it and we were done.
Had the waiter race to get the bill and we raced out of there.
I would like to rate this place "poor" or 1 star but it needs to get a few points for the decor and also I have to believe that we just failed to order its better items. |

| "Passes my litmus test!" |
05 May 2009 |
| Call me boring but when I go Chinese its their Sweet corn Chicken soup that most interests me. Since I usually start with it, its make or break time when that soup appears on the table. Golden Dragon passed that litmus test with flying colors. I really liked their soup a lot. Unlike how I normally douse the soup in soy sauce and vinegar, this time a light seasoning was all it took. Loved it! Not sure if its the best in town but I would return for it.
I also had some fried rice and HongKong Chicken. Both were good and as greasy as most Chinese food unavoidably is. Enjoyed that too.
Service was good although we did get served someone Else's dish. Almost dug in before it was politely removed from our table!
Reasonable price and a quiet, slightly dark reprieve from the lights and glitz of the shopping mall. |

| "When in Mumbai..." |
22 May 2009 |
| It would be a shame if you were in Mumbai but missed out on a visit to Leopold Cafe. Or so I was told! So during my brief stop over in Mumbai I made it over there. And I am sure glad I did!
Sitting there, you can really take in Mumbai. The energy and its people (although must confess a lot of the patrons were not of Indian origin!). I was lucky to get a chair to sit on. As the evening progressed it was almost impossible to move with the crowd shoulder to shoulder.
More than the beer and music, it was the atmosphere that was really great. With all that has happened tragically in this place, Leopold cafe shows no signs of its scars!
Will be back for another beer soon! |
