South Indies

"Aapams were the show stealer" 24 May 2010
We were there for their lunch buffet. As an avid meat eater I wasnt too excited about the place, but a look inside did make it seem like the experiece would be good. The interiors are neat and attractive. The central open to sky area houses the buffet with the seating area surrounding it. The first thing that stood out was the service. It was very prompt and polite. There was someone always around, almost like having our own personal butler (although the place was hopping). The lunch buffet was extensive, almost everytype of south Indian staple; sambhar, tamarind rice, dosas.. you name it. They also bring hot paranthas to your table if you request them. The unfortunate part was that most of the food seemed greasy. Looked really appetizing and could see most guests scarfing down the food, but the grease did put me off a bit. The saving grace was the made to serve and hot Aapams (Kerala dosas). They were crisp and delicious. The stew that went with it was great too. That pretty much was my lunch and I am not complaining. For desert there was some payasam, ice cream and Indian sweets. All not too bad. All in all, the place is nice, food is decent, the buffet affordable and service great. Not sure if I would make a trip out to revisit though. I might be alone in my review as the place seemed quite busy.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

"A good coffee break" 24 May 2010
The cafe is located on the first level of the Mall and is surprising large. You walk in expecting that the seating is all you see, but walk to the back and there are couches and lazyboys too. The place is always busy. Businessmen, shoppers, kids, collegekids every kind of customer keeps the place going. A lot of people with their computers open typing away furiously! Nice to see they are ok with you nursing your drink for a few hours and dont try to run you out! Tried their cafe latte and cold coffee. both pretty good. They also have a selection of sandwiches, cookies, biscotti and more. Even if you are not into their coffee, its a great place to chill or take a break between shopping.

GRS Fantasy Park

"Quite Impressive" 26 May 2010
Took the family there on a hot sunny afternoon. The place wasn't really packed and that really helped enjoy the experience. Considering many of the water rides and activities open and close on a schedule, it would have been chaos if large crowds tried to make it to the next open ride all together. Anyway, the kids enjoyed the wave pool and all the water slides. The water seemed very clean and clear. The grounds were also immaculate, with no sign of trash anywhere. Lifeguards were always visible as was security. The lazy river was a bit disappointing, it required quite a bit of effort to float through for the young ones and there wasn't really any fun surprises like a waterfall along the way. I think it might be something adults might enjoy more. We did not get to the other rides, the water activities were too much fun to pry the kids away. There is a canteen style restaurant that serves the usual south Indian, north Indian and Chinese food. Once again its clean but gets crowded during lunch hours when most rides and pools are shut down. Would recommend this if you are looking for a way for the kids to have fun all day long. There is plenty to keep them busy and some stuff that you will enjoy too!

The Village

"Nice Village" 26 May 2010
We stayed there a year ago and were very pleased with our experience. The grounds are nicely landscaped and there is plenty of greenery. The place has a rustic feel to it and it quite tastefully done up. The rooms were clean and well kept. The bathrooms weren't really modern but had all the amenities you would want. Service and the food were decent. A nice place to stay. It just the right distance from the main city and a great place to relax.

Cubs

"Good stuff" 26 May 2010
Cubs has to be one of Mysore's top cake shops. We tasted their cakes before we actually went there and were thoroughly impressed. Very moist and tasty and not drowning in icing and cream. The place itself is neat and contemporary. At one end is the display shelves in-front of the see thru kitchen and the rest of the space has seating including bar style seating and couches. They serve sandwiches, snacks, cakes, drinks, coffee and more. We tried two of their chocolate cakes (I think one of them was called Bulls eye), cold coffee and litchi soda. All excellent. Did not get to sit there long, but definitely think this a great place to relax with a cup of joe and piece of cake or just to get together with friends. They have outdoor seating too and on cooler days would opt to sit out. There isn't crazy traffic so it isn't too loud. Service and quality both get high marks here!
