Elevate

"Definitely elevates your spirits!" 03 Aug 2008
This is definitely a club that compares in quality and style to the mammoth ones you see in the US. I wasn't really expecting a club on this scale anywhere in India but obviously I need to get with the times. Great sound, lights and a huge dance floor are some of the good aspects of this club. The night we were there, its wasn't especially crowded and that was good. Also it wasn't an ultra young crowd like I am used to seeing at such nightspots, maybe the huge cover charge keeps them away. We also spotted a few celebrities including Anoushka Sarkar and her posse. This place also attracts some big name DJ's. Check their schedule and head out there for a great night!

Ente Keralam

"Close to being in Kerala!" 12 Aug 2008
I had heard so much about this place, was really ready to be blown away. The place in itself is really impressive. It feels like you are stepping into a bungalow in Kerala, not that I have been in many! The cool part is this little alcove that functions as a working kitchen. Designed like a home style kitchen, a lady in ethnic garb makes appams. There is a lot of attention to detail here. Each table has something to remind you that you are in a Keralite restaurant. They have miniature Chinese fishing nets on the table, they would actually make a neat going away gift. Alas that wasn't meant to be! Now to the food. Of course I had to try the appams and they were pretty good. Had some fish stew and few other chicken dishes. The food was really spicy but quite tasty. Like I said earlier, good food but doesn't really blow your mind. Great marks for the ambience and concept and slightly more than average for the food. My final recommendation - Try it!

Salon da Frizz

"Hello Aloe! " 05 Sep 2008
The last time i was in Chennai I decided to accompany my cousins while they got their hair treatments at this salon. While I was waiting in their tiny waiting room I was coaxed by one of their staff to try a head massage. Well, it didn't take much convincing and I stepped into their Men's section. The space is not fancy or upscale, very minimal but clean. A TV mounted on the wall played a regional channel and every time a song came on one of the men there would turn up the volume. So it wasn't really a calming atmosphere but nevertheless I was ready for my head massage. I asked for the simple one without all the karate chopping that I have noticed a lot of head massages include. It was a pretty decent head massage. He used a generous amount of Olive oil and then suggested I try their special Aloe vera treatment - "Very cooling sir!" To my surprise they actually brought in a part of the plant and extracted its juice. Very organic and natural I must say. He used both the juice and stalk on my head and it was indeed very cooling. I almost did not hear the blaring songs, that's how nice it felt. The staff were very friendly and very nice. It was a good experience. They do know how to sell their stuff although you would not expect that. The girls had a good experience too. None of us had a hair cut or anything fancy, so cannot really comment on that. I would go back for their Aloe massage the next time I am in town.

Aura

Although I have never used the spa, it does come higly recommended. I bought a spa package for my parents for their anniversary. They had a great and relaxing time. Considering they are quite picky, no complaints from them must mean it was pretty good. They have a small but neat gym. Also have a yoga studio but last I checked they did not have any regular classes. I toured the place to check it out and their spa and massage rooms were very nicely decorated and had great ambience. I think I might just try it too!

Copper Chimney

"Try everything once!" 10 Nov 2008
I have been to this place so often since it opened many years ago. Its good food with good service. I don't live in Chennai any more, so it means going there less often but always go back when I visit. I don't really have a favorite dish and let my family do the ordering. Never really had something that didn't taste good, so my recommendation is try everything once! So why am I not rating it any higher, because I have to wonder if all the good service and good food has something to do with us being regulars and good tippers. Nah, unlikely! Ok, let me bump up the rating from Pretty good to very good!
