| "A Home in Mumbai" |
03 Jul 2008 |
| I spent a couple of days in Bombay, just about a month ago. I did not take the chance of missing my precious time at Mondegar. It is peaceful, lively, unique, friendly, and brilliant. The wall frescoes by Mario Miranda give it a new and old feeling. Antique, melancholic, and beautiful.
The waiters are absolutely friendly. Beef steak to wine is available. It caters to the beer guzzlers, corporates, teenagers, artists, travellers, and all. They do not disturb you but the Mondys people might take a chance in striking a conversation with you. It feels like you a part of a beer community. Food and drink. Fun!
Chicken roast and beef steak is a must. The tables are near to each other, but the crowd waiting to get inside explains why they have so many tables. If you do not mind skipping a smoke through your dining experience, you might as well go to the Inn-side A nice quiet experience. But, you surely miss out on the outside loud laughing fun.
You can even choose what music to listen to. Costs you Rs.10 to choose a song. People are always choosing a variety of songs. So, if you are not into pop, but caught in a room of pop-freaks, good luck to you! I learnt to ignore the music. I had my fun with my friends, the waiters, the food, and the drinks. That is all I do. Then, Mario Miranda started intimidating me. So, I grabbed a book and started sketching. Brilliant experience! Like my home in Mumbai. I am going back there soon. |

| "With my Family, a culture!" |
19 Aug 2009 |
| Sit like the Koreans, drink like the Koreans, and eat like them. Do you want sake? Do you want sushi? This is the perfect place for a delicate, filling, and massive dinner. Order small, because they keep bringing you a palette of starters including squids, onions, garlic, etc.
Do you love grilled and sauteed meat? Order it! The waiter will cook it on your table and serve it for you. They are friendly, and calm.
I loved my dinner. It filled me with some really brilliant tastes. The place elates you with the amount of peace present. Meditative! This place is not only about food, it talks culture through the plates, atmosphere, fragrance, and nature. |

| "A Quick Bite!" |

| My Dad and I used to ride down to Vishranti, when we lived in Besant Nagar. He would get us tea at a corner tea kadai - Seeta Tea Stall. Then, we would settle for some dosai or sambar idli for breakfast. Nostalgic moments!
Here it stops. No more attachments. I just remember, very clearly, the funny chappatis and tomato soup with a lot of bread crumbs.
I think it is just the place to read the newspaper in the morning. It has life, a different kind. |

| "Under the Dark Green Canopies" |
02 Aug 2008 |
| Closed on Tuesdays, but on all other days Bella Ciao stands open for fun, spirit, and love. It offers some of the best Italian cuisine in Chennai.
The owners are two really beautiful people, with big hearts and lovely smiles. They welcome you more into a home than a stop and eat place.
Though they no longer serve beer with their meals, pitchers of wines are available with their exquisite serving. They have pizzas, salads, pastas, the usual Italian, and the authentic Italian.
The outdoor seating option is brilliant. It has a swing for the kids and thatched seating for the guests. It's lovely to eat food topped with spicy olive oil, listening the sea breeze, and watching the dark green canopies.
No doubt it is an expensive tour for your appetite. But, I'm sure some of us are surely going to let are pockets down for this experience at least once in a life time. And if you really feel tight, just wait till one of your rich pompous acquaintances land up asking you out for a meal. Drive them out here! Romantic, tasty, and a home.
