Asia 7

"Magnificent 7!" 22 May 2010
On a busy Sunday afternoon at the mall we scoured the top floor of the mall looking for the right restaurant to eat at. So many choices but hardly any that caught our eye. Eventually we settled for Asia & because is was open longer, seemed lively and clean. We were greeted at the door by their head chef who ironically was standing right next to his lifesize cardboard cutout! We were seated quickly but asked to be seated elsewhere. Our request was easily accomodated. The Buffet spread was interesting and varied. With almost everything being cleared out by the many diners, the dishes were constantly being replenshed with fresh food made in the show kitchen. There was sushi rolls, salads, noodles, fried rice, hongkong Chicken, dimsum, soups, ice creams, Indian sweets and more. All very good. The service was a bit tardy though. We had to remind the waiter at least twice to bring our soup, dimsum and cold drinks. Probably because he was waiting more tables than he could handle. Otherwise it was a great experience. And people with kids, they do offer a high chair ( a really high chair actuallly!) The buffet cost about Rs.475, not bad for the amount of food we could have.

La Gardenia

"Regal meal" 26 May 2010
Let me start by saying that I miss the hotel being called "Southern Star". The new name "Hotel Regalis" lacks all the nostaligia and class! Anyway, getting to the restaurant. Gardenia is located on the lobby level to right as you enter. The spaciouls restaurant has plenty of seating area including some parts that can be cordoned off for a private getogether. I have not been there for dinner, but been there for lunch a few times. Their buffet is pretty good and probably one of the few places in Mysore where the spread is so extensive. It starts with salads and snacks and goes on to pastas, asian foods and traditional Indian foods. The desserts are on separate table and often include cookies, cakes, ice creams and Indian sweets. The service is pretty good. Now and then we had to wait for our soiled plates to be taken away, but otherwise cannot really complain. We were there for a friends birthday and mentioned it to the manager. They were nice enough to bring out a cake at the end of the meal. Always had a good experience. A great place to take the entire family out.

Café Coffee Day

"Run of the mill but for..." 09 Jun 2010
With a redundant menu and verbatim decor its hard for a CCD to stand apart and they rarely do. This is no exception other than the fact that they have al fresco seating in an area where its hard to find. The one day that I was day, they had no air conditioning and it was actually cooler to sit outside. Service was a bit slow and it took a while to get some attention, probably because they were busy. All in all, like any other CCD but with outdoor seating!

Nalas Aappa Kadai

"Appams and coconut milk!" 09 Mar 2011
One of the many food options at the Mall's food court, and a pretty good one at that. The food is light especially the aapams and coconut milk. Also tried their Kadalia curry, not that impressed. But if you are in the mood for light Indian food, this is a great option. Although sitting at the food court there, Biryani's seemed most popular, not sure though where they were being bought from.

Cafe Coffee Day

"Cool place to hang out!" 13 Mar 2011
This is a great place to chill and look out of their expansive windows. Of course like most places in India the upkeep is questionable, yet the service continues to be good and of course their Frappe is just great. I dont care for much else on their menu and often its not available either! The crowd is younger and hip. Seems like a lot of college kids frequent this place. Probably the most happening business in Ispahani center, sad to say! Recommend it on any sunny afternoon or just to hang out anytime of day!
