Sparky's Diner

"Wish it were better!" 13 Aug 2009
I had heard so many good things about this place but unfortunately my personal experience was no where near all the hype. The food was mediocre but it was the service and presentation that was pretty bad. It seemed like there was no effort made or passion in the cooking, just some cook back there reading of a recipe book. The food took long to arrive and the waiter did not once come by and check on us while we waited. Wish I had a better experience there, will think twice now before returning.

Absolute

"Absolute disap-POD-ment" 27 Nov 2009
Absolute is a hip contemporary restaurant in the modern and chic hotel POD. The decor is all steel and glass, you cant help but raise your expectations for a great meal. Sadly that was not to be. Service was slow and tardy. We were served some great bread but that was all that was on our table for the longest time. I ordered the black cod, while my friend ordered the Sea Bass (Imported Alaskan). The Sea Bass was in a horse radish sauce that did everything but compliment the fish. My Black cod was soggy and sticky on the bottom, and did not taste very fresh. We did not stay for dessert worried things might go further downhill. There is a good chance there is much better stuff on the menu and I would suggest not to totally write this place off, just request prompt service and stay away from the fish!

Golden Dragon @ The Taj Mahal Hotel

"Still Golden!" 29 Nov 2009
The restaurant has had a makeover and opened on the first anniversary of the 26/11 terrorist attack. The place has is stylishly designed with Chinese lanterns adorning much of the restaurant. The service at the restaurant was courteous, prompt and very professional. We were well attended to and all our questions and concerns were appropriately addressed. We started with a classic sweet corn chicken soup and a Curried Vegetable soup. Both were very good. The curried soup seemed like a perfect blend of Indian, Thai and Chinese flavors. The hint of lemon grass definitely added a kick to the soup. For entrees we had the Sticky rice wrapped in a leaf, shredded duck and a selection of dumplings. The shredded duck was tender yet a bit salty for my tastes. The dumplings were pretty good although I did not much care for the Mushroom cheese dumpling. It did not seems to agree with my taste sensibilities. Others might feel otherwise! The deserts were very good. Both our orders were quite exceptional. If you have a taste for dark chocolate, try the Dark Chocolate Dimsum drizzled in Saffron sauce. The Apple dumpling was the other dessert that did also hit the spot. All in all a great experience. Its pricey but you do feel you get your money's worth.

The Only Place

"Stll the only place." 29 Nov 2009
Only place had remained one of m favorite spots not just because its brings up a little nostalgia but also because it has been consistent in its food. I have been going to this place since I was little and followed it through all its relocations and remodels! Over the years I have realized my favorites and rarely deviate from my regular order. Earlier it used to include a steak but not since I stopped eating beef. So now I get the large Baked Potato, the Garden Salad and Lasagna. Never seem to go wrong with these three. This is a neat and clean place where the service is courteous and prompt. Recommend eating there when in B'lore!

Movenpick

"Not my pick!" 02 Feb 2010
Movenpick really needs to pick up its maintainence quotient! This once gleaming place is showing signs of wear and tear. Their ice creams are pretty good although I do find a lot of them too creamy and sweet. I am sure a lot of its patrons frequent this place for the very same reason. Not me, in fact I would prefer a Baskin Robbins on most nights. My kids love it though :)
