Toast

"Good food, Great Music" 28 Apr 2010
Toast is located on the top floor of the West Gate mall between the restaurants, Moti Mahal and Golden Dragon. The restaurant is a part of the Lazeez Affaire chain. Although the restaurant was off to a slow start it has now picked up and has quite a following as evidenced on this late night on a weekday! By 10 pm the lights are turned down and the music is turned up. DJ Mik plays a great mix of popular Indian and Western songs picked from different eras. He deserves kudos for effectively creating a party spot out of what could have been an ordinary lounge. Its easy to see why so many people left their tables to dance. Or could it have been that the music was so loud it was next to impossible to hear each other at the table or almost anywhere in the restaurant? The seating is comfortable, there are open tables, cubicle and a private area. A couple LCD Televisions play an odd Tv channel and frankly they serve as an unnecessary distraction. For a weeknight the place was quite crowded and the age group ranged from 2 to 60! One end of the restaurant is occupied by a full service bar and bar stools. There is a good selection of cocktails, mocktails and liqour. Disappointingly the beer selection is small, only Calrsberg and Kingfisher. There is however a very eclectic mix food from almost every corner of the world. In the international section of the menu, each dish is describe along with the its country of origin (Lebanese, Spanish, Italian, Oriental etc..) The Indian section has a lot of what is available at the Lazeez Affaire restaurants. Our order was quickly delivered to our table and there was little to complain about. The yogurt (Dahi) Kababs and Grand Non-Veg Platters were outstanding. The Moroccan Satay, Fish and Chips, Dal Makhani, Butter Chicken were other stand outs. Toast was a great surprise and if DJ Mik is playing it would be a great place to host a party, you are assured good music and good food!

Indian Accent

"Indian fusion mastery at work here!" 06 Aug 2010
The restaurant is a contemporary space and like its food is a perfect fusion of Indian and western elements. Located in the posh "Manor", the restaurant has an open view of the veranda that sits at the edge of a well landscaped and manicured lawn. There is a private dining room and a bar, but much of what there is to experience happens at your table. There is an air of sophistication that permeates this place. But the polite service dulls the sophistication inching it away from being a snobbish restaurant. High marks for presentation that could make the most foul tasting food drool worthy. Although its hard to find anything that is not tasty on their menus. As starters the bite size blue cheese naan served with cashew and coconut chutney is perfect. The pani puri starter has the puris innovatively stuffed with wasabi peas giving it that pungent bite. The tasting menus are definitely their piece de resistance with a non-vegetarian and vegetarian selection. The courses (11-12 dishes in all) are paired perfectly with half glass portions of wine. For those with a smaller appetite try the light menu that offers about half the number of dishes. But we have to warn you that it will leave you wanting for more. The must-try list of food is exhaustive and some of it arrives as a part of the tasting menu. But here is my attempt at listing some of them; Rice coated red snapper molly, foie gras stuffed galawat, Panko crusted bharwan mirch, flambe' tandoori chicken, masala miso scottish salmon, masala wild mushrooms and the achaari new zealand lamb shank. We may have come away with much lighter wallets but satiated and happy. This can be a worthy experience for all your foodies out there!
