| "Great Shawarmas" |
08 Jul 2010 |
| Golden Grill is a new Arabic restaurant on Carter Road, Bandra. Besides Arabic, it also serves, Punjabi and Indian cuisine.
While here, we ordered for a Chicken Shawarma. Some places on Carter Road offer an Indianised version of the Shawarma wherein they either use Mayo or sometimes even curd in place of Hummus.
Golden Grill however, serves the Shawarma with hummus! The Hummus was majorly at the beginning of the Shawarma while most of it was just chicken, pita bread and veggies.
There seemed to be a lot of demand for the Shawarma at Golden Grill and why not? Their Shawarma's are as authentic as one can get here. Its closest competitor is also its next door neighbour Maroosh but they charge extra for a plate of Hummus!
At Rs.110 it isn't the cheapest but with other places constantly increasing prices Golden Grill seems very affordable. |

| "Huge Portions!" |
09 Jul 2010 |
| Kafe D'Or is a located in the quiet lane opposite the bustling Citimall, Andheri. Primarily a restaurant, it is also a bakery and a nightclub. Plush d?cor, high ceilings, big comfy chairs and high tables, all draped in a washed out brown colour is what one sees when entering the restaurant.
A polite staff greeted us though evidently we were not dressed for the restaurant.
Anyways, we decided to treat ourselves to some salads followed by a main course. Healthy eating was the order of the day as we dug into our chicken salad. Huge portions of chicken and freshly cut green leafy vegetables were enough for two people! The salad in itself is a meal unless you are sharing it with someone else!
For main course, we ordered for the Chicken Paella. Paella is sort of a Spanish Chicken Biryani. Cooked in saffron rice, the Paella too was humungous in quantity with huge pieces of chicken in there! There was a lot of chicken and a lot of rice and no veggies, which was a disappointment. Wonder if the dish would resemble a Chinese Steam Chicken Rice had there been more veggies in it!
Overall, the food was good and the quantity was satisfying. To end our meal we ordered for Chocolate Decadence with ice cream. Dark chocolate usually goes well with vanilla! Though one complain we did was that the pastry did not seem fresh and tasted like it was a couple of days old.
Overall Ratings:
Pricing: 3/5: Expensive however, the quantity makes up for it!
Ambiance: 4/5: Excellent ambiance.
Food: 4/5: Fresh salad and big pieces of chicken.

| "Zodiac, Affordable dining in Andheri (East)" |
11 Jul 2010 |
| Zodiac is family restaurant frequent by many of my ex-office colleagues. Had heard rave reviews about this place so decided to give it a try. The restaurant appears small from the outside but is big enough so don't be fooled by its entrance.
Zodiac offers the usual Indian fare. There is a permit room next door but if you are with your family and still want to have a few drinks, then the restaurant is your best bet. They only have a few drinks on the menu and I could see a majority of the patrons ordering for beer.
We were here for dinner and being on the bike, booze is a strict no no. So ordered for lassi for myself and a lime juice for my friend. The lassi was cold but thick and sweet - just the way I like it!
For starters we ordered for Chicken Chilly Dry. It was the usual fare - spicy chewy chicken with some garlic thrown in!
For main course we ordered for a Chicken Chettinadu. A south Indian dish, the Chettinadu is a bit tangy. Cooked in coconut oil, the dish was tangy and a bit sour too.
Even though the food was nothing great to talk about, it was delicious nonetheless and the place does deserve a good rating. At least, they didn't overcharge and the prices weren't heavy on the wallet either.
Overall Ratings: Pricing: 4/5 - The meal cost us Rs.500 which came to Rs.250 per person.
Ambiance: 3/5 - Comfy sofas, cosy seating, good service is a major plus point. But the place does resemble a beer bar so not the perfect setting for a family outing!
Food: 3/5 - Appetizing and filling but not satisfying. |

| "Saffron Spice, Good buffet!" |
11 Jul 2010 |
| Saffron Spice is very popular buffet place located near Seepz. It also serves an innovative fixed price lunch menu for the office crowds.
The buffet includes 5 types of starters, 4 types of main course and around 4 different types of desserts.
We went for the buffet and were served soup first up. There is only chicken clear soup and tomato soup which we recommend skipping for the appetizers instead.
We liked the Paneer and the Malaysian Chicken starters. The Chicken was sweet, soft and tender. However, the buffet menu keeps changing so the Malaysian Chicken may not be available all the time. The Paneer was disappointed as it was devoid of any spices nearly melt in the mouth but would have liked for the Paneer to be a little more spicy as it was too bland for our liking.
The main course consisted of chicken biryani and a couple of chicken and veg gravy dishes. However, for me, the chicken biryani was the only main course on the menu. Did a couple of rounds for the chicken biryani with the plate full both times!
Even though the chicken biryani wasn't special, me being a biryani boy, was partial to the biryani and preferred it over any other dish.
Those who opted for the other main course dish were served with fresh rotis, still hot from the oven. Come to think of it, will definitely go here again to try the roti subzi.
At Rs.350 per person, the buffet is pretty good. The desserts are good too with Gulab Jamuns, Rasgullas and ice cream. The Gulab Jamuns melted in our mouth and were so yummy that we couldn't resist going multiple times just for the Jamuns.
Overall, the food was filling but wasn't overtly satisfying. It could have been so much better had they added a few more masalas and ingredients to the meals.
What's awesome? - Melt in the mouth Gulab Jamuns
What can be avoided? - Plain vanilla soups
What could be better? - Chicken Biryani |

| "Good Italian Food but at a price!" |
16 Jul 2010 |
| With nearly every cuisine available in every nukkad of Bandra, can an Italian place be far off? Bandra does have its own set of Italian restaurant and one such is Mia Cucina at Pali Naka.
Mia Cucina is an upmarket restaurant and an ambiance and pricing to go with.
The ambiance is pleasing and very relaxing which is a big advantage to have if located in a bustling traffic jammed stree. Mia Cucina has its own set of followers which includes a lot of Bandraites and quite a few foreign nationals who now call Bandra home.
Mia Cucina is perhaps the only place with a hand written menu. Off course, uniqueness knows no bounds but writing each and every item down does take time and especially when you have to write multiple menu cards!
We called for a cooler - the Black Soda which was essentially cranberry juice with soda.
Once an order is placed they serve Sour Bread along with butter to keep you munching on something before the order arrives! The bread was sour as the name suggests and it was first for me! It is essentially a poor man's dish but being served at Mia Cucina, it had its own charm!
For appetizers we ordered for a Bruschetta Pollo. Essentially a garlic bread, the pollo has Balsamic Vinegar along with cheese to give it that tangy taste. However, after the subsequent meal, I felt the pollo was a let down in terms of pricing and quantity.
For main course we called for Strozzapreti Con Pollo. Strozzapreti is what gave the meal its character. Parmesan cheese along with chicken cubes (ironic isn't it?) and tomato sauce resulted in a bland main course.
We were surprised we didn't get any more sauces along with the main course. Maybe we could have asked!
We topped our meal with White Chocolate Cheese Cake. Tasted like Milky White with a hint of Cheese.
Overall, we were quite satisfied with the food quality at Mia Cucina. Italian is one of my favourites and I really liked the fact that every effort was made to make the food taste authentic. We paid Rs.709, which is expensive by an standard but the food coupled with an awesome ambiance made up for the price.
Mia Cucina is a good place to hang out and is very romantic especially if you reserve a table here in the inner A/C section. We do recommend outside seating especially late in the evenings when the traffic is minimal and the atmosphere surreal.
