| Joss in Chinese means ‘luck’ and you’re in for plenty of that when you visit this splendid Pan Asian eatery near the Jehangir Art Gallery. 4000 sq ft of spacious interiors greet you as you walk into Joss, with an ambiance that would turn a 5 star hotel green with envy.
Owner and Chef Farrokh Khambata who began Joss a couple of years ago explains the natural progression from his ‘catering days’. He’s been dishing out a serving of divinity since 1995, and a meeting with the man reassures you that his affable personality extends to his culinary creations as well.
My personal favourites on the menu include the Chilean Sea Bass, Himalayan Smoked Trout, Balinese Curry, Duck and the Hot Kahlua Souffle. Joss also serves up the prettiest soup you’ve seen – Spring Garlic had with either Crabmeat or Brie Fondant. Another Joss signature is the Padre Curry from Sri Lanka. Made with duck for those that eat anything that doesn’t bite back, and with water chestnuts for the good people that wouldn’t hurt a fly. In fact Joss has a rather kind-to-vegetarians menu, unlike a lot of other Asian restaurants. If the menu seems daunting, do call upon any of the staff who have been well trained to guide you through your culinary obstacle course.
