Looks like the concept of a den for comfort food where beer can be your best friend seems to have cemented itself in namma Bengaluru. One of Bangalore’s iconic places, Windsor Pub, for long a bastion of beer and comfort food, seems to have some competition with a new kid on the block. With an attitude that can only be described as Bangalorean, Plan B adds another dimension to a burgeoning F&B industry. So when I heard about this place, especially the fact that they served beef and pork, I knew I absolutely had to visit it.
I went along with a group of friends, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We started off with some pandi curry (pork dish from Coorg, for the uninitiated) along with some chili pork, chicken satay, cheesy fries and beef nachos. That apart, the menu seemed to push the patrons towards trying the wings, and so wings were ordered as well. The Pandi curry and the beef nachos were superb, while the chili pork and satay were quite good, both juicy and well flavoured. The wings could have done with some more meat on them.
The setup is one of a classic pub, and the music and the atmosphere was great, although the music seemed to be repeating after a while, but we didn't really care - we were there for the food. Brick-lined walls with posters from a bygone era only add to the ambiance. As I mentioned above, this place has the attitude that is quintessentially Bangalorean - warm, comforting, not-too-fast-not-too-slow.
For the main course, we ordered the day's special, smoked pork chops, followed by a pulled pork sandwich, a juicy Lucy (beef burger), a veg dish, lasagna and jerk chicken steak. The veg dish was a let down, and I must say that vegetarians, unless they like to drink and are content with limited options, can stay away. But the rest of us loved the food. The smoked pork chops were the best I've had in Bangalore. Juicy, soft, well-flavoured - simply superb. The juicy Lucy, too was great, with oodles of cheese oozing out with every bite, Also, the size of the patty is something to watch out for - humongous! The pulled pork sandwich had some delicious cured smoked pork in it and was great as well, while the lasagna was good, but nothing much to rave about.
The desserts were a bit of a let down (and at the time of writing this, they've been changed), but we didn't really care too much for that either. Overall, a thoroughly wonderful meal, great ambiance, and fantastic experience.
