he has made Olive Beach his home. After having travelled and lived abroad for many years I finally came home to settle in Bangalore. I must have had nothing short of 12 - 13 really bad 5 star hotel experiences, where I coughed up big bucks (even in dollars) and came away empty handed.
Finally I landed on a warm Sunday afternoon to Olive for their legendary brunch. It quickly became apparent why it is so famous, and why so many awards are hanging on their walls. It was a truly boutique experience, with carefully selected dishes not rotting away in large chafing dishes and being refreshed ever so often. My grubhog colleague below probably should go to a 499 all she can eat veg buffet at a Rajdhani, don't waste your time here.
Between my friends and me we must have polished off their excellent fresh oysters and countless bottles of sparkling wine (just that was worth more than what I paid) the snacks kept coming around, and the Pizza's were as good as Sicily, where they make them thin and crispy. Super fresh salads, salami and so much more. My Hummus too was perfectly garlicky, so some bitter bangaloreans should learn to appreciate good things and not beat down a great place. This level of food and service (ambiance is stellar no doubt) is rarely available anywhere.
Now for the best part, I returned for dinner 4 days later with bosses who too had never been, all I can say is it was 6 out of 5 stars. Perfect in every sense, the ambiance better than the afternoon, and some top notch culinary wizardry. My duck was impeccable, and according to my boss he has not had fresher more delicately cooked fish in his 4 years in Bangalore. Full marks Olive Beach, and full support. I will ask my bosses to write their reviews here too, so they can help protect what is truly special in Bangalore, as opposed to having it slandered by some half wits.
